Hello and welcome!
I appreciate your interest to learn more about practicing mindfulness, compassion, and meditation. I am very excited about the launch of my website and this has been a long-time pursuit. It feels great to finally take the leap and offer these courses and consulting services to the wider community.
I was brought to mindfulness in 2011 while studying for my doctorate. The challenges of Graduate school combined with other life sressors were intense. I wanted to find healthier ways to cope with the stress, especially knowing that it was going to be a long journey (i.e. years!) to graduate and I needed to approach the challenges in more skillful ways. I was familiar with the well documented empirical benefits of practicing mindfulness and meditation, and mindfulness was something I understood conceptually, however, I did not know how to practice mindfulness. So, I enrolled in an eight-week group course.
I began my journey of practicing how to be still…and come back to the breath…and maybe not itch the itch…and come back to the breath…and listen to my body…and be still…and come back to the breath… and on.
It was more challenging than it had seemed on paper, but it was also much more profound. It was an incredible path to begin to understand the autopilot thoughts, behaviors, and self-critical stances that were not conducive to my health and well-being. I realized after the course finished that this was something I wanted to share with others. Mindfulness is not a magic pill or a problem solving elixir – but it does offer the opportunity to approach our experiences in different ways and create some space and clarity to make more informed decisions.
I look forward to working with you and offering various resources to support your practice. Check out the upcoming eight-week online “Introduction to Mindfulness” course. There are also free downloadable meditations in the Resources section. I will also be sharing blog posts about mindfulness topics, research blurbs, and personal experiences to honor our common humanity. Join the mailing list if you’d like to stay connected about the new happenings.
Awareness is a great starting point and I’m glad you’re here.
